He hesitated, unsettled by how real the sounds had been. Peering into every shadowed corner, he found nothing disturbed. Exhaling sharply, he tried to steady his racing heart, reminding himself it was exhaustion playing tricks.

But the chill lingered. Nathan moved toward the door to check the hallway. It was empty—silent as always. The corridor stretched ahead, lined with storage rooms and the exit. No sign of life. Only the eerie stillness of the hospital at night.

He paused, breath shallow, then retreated into the morgue, locking the door behind him. The faint rustling haunted his ears. Whatever was happening, he couldn’t explain it. One thing was certain—he was alone here, and something didn’t feel right.

The next morning, Nathan dragged himself back to the hospital, still weighed down by last night’s experience. He found a senior nurse in the break room and hesitantly shared what he’d seen.

“Oh, maybe your initiation has begun,” she said with a chuckle, amused. “It’s part of the job here at Saint Luther’s.” Her knowing look implied he’d soon understand.

Nathan blinked, puzzled. “Initiation?”

She shrugged. “Saint Luther’s pranks are a rite of passage. Every newbie goes through it—things go missing, strange noises, misplaced charts…” Her tone was casual, like sharing an inside joke.

Nathan recalled the doctor’s warning: “Watch out, the morgue is haunted. You never know what you’ll find.” He’d thought it a joke—just another way to haze the new guy.
