Justice, in Disguise
“They know exactly how to manipulate good-hearted people like you,” Danny said softly, his voice laced with fury. His eyes darkened as the weight of what had happened sank deeper. “They took advantage of your love for me, and I’m not going to let them get away with it.”
Marie clung to him, sobbing quietly into his shoulder, her fingers gripping the back of his shirt.
“I’ve lost so much, Danny,” she whispered through trembling lips. “All my savings… it’s all gone.”
Danny pulled back just enough to see her face. Tear-streaked, pale, but full of love.
“There has to be a way to get it back, Grandma,” he said firmly. “We’ll figure something out. I promise.”
His mind churned with fury and focus. He picked up his phone and called the local precinct, relaying everything he could remember—Marie’s call, the false arrest story, the voice mimicry, the money transfer.

“I understand this is incredibly distressing,” the officer on the other end said, his tone professional. “We’ll document everything and pass it on to our fraud investigation unit. Someone will be in touch soon.”
Danny ended the call with a tight jaw.
“They’ll ‘get back to us,’” he muttered, turning to Marie, whose eyes still brimmed with worry.
“I was hoping they’d do something now,” she whispered, voice tinged with disappointment.
“They messed with the wrong family,” Danny said, his face hardening with resolve.
He opened his contacts and dialed Alex.
Calling in a Specialist
Alex wasn’t just a friend—he was a legend in cybersecurity circles, someone Danny had known since college. But his past was shadowed by stories. Once known online as Specter, Alex had been a feared and revered hacker—someone who could find anyone, crack anything, and vanish without a trace.
When he answered, his voice was calm but focused.
“Danny. What’s going on?”
